DSS arms in akwa ibom state government house

Men of the Department of the State Service have
uncovered arms and ammunition from the Akwa
Ibom State Government House in Uyo.
The discovery, which was made during a surprise
raid was jointly carried out by men from the SSS
headquarters in Abuja and Akwa-Ibom State
command.
After ransacking the entire residence of the
governor, which is yet to be occupied by the
serving Governor, Udom Emmanuel, the security
men moved to guest houses and the presidential
lodge, said to be currently in use by the
immediate past Governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio.
Security sources said that the arms were found
in one of the guest houses while searching for
documents and Improvised Explosive Devices.
Meanwhile, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele
Fayose, has condemned the invasion of the
Akwa Ibom Government House by the armed
men of Department of State Services.
Governor Fayose said the manner the security
men ransacked, intimidated and harassed the
occupants, claiming they were searching for
bomb and documents, was strange and anti-
democracy.
Governor Fayose, who addressed journalists in
Ado-Ekiti through his Special Assistant on Public
Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere
Olayinka, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to
call the Director-General of the Department of
State Service, Alhaji Lawal Daura to order or
sack him if he was uncontrollable.
The governor, however, accused the security
agency of acting a sinister motive to run down
PDP-controlled states in the South-South and
South-East, instead of going after INEC
suspected to have been involved in graft.

civil servant in ebonyi beging one week warning strike

Labour Unions in Ebonyi State have directed civil
servants in the state to begin a one-week warning
strike immediately, to demand payment of their
salaries.
The workers and the State Government have
been at logger-heads for several months over
payment of the fifty percent salary structure
implemented by the immediate-past
administration.
The current administration reverted to thirty-five
percent salary structure and insisted that it
would not pay the fifty percent structure after
paying it in June.
In a bulletin, the unions directed workers to stay
at home and pray for God’s intervention in the
matter.
According to the bulletin, the committee set up
by the government to resolve the issue
compromised in the recommendations contained
in its submitted report to the government.
It adds that the recommendations in the report
were without recourse to organised labour’s
submission based on the state’s economic
realities.

'Mad Max' actor is producing with an eye to
star in the adaptation of the gritty comic.
New Line and Tom Hardy are loading up on 100
Bullets.
In the first move since assuming oversight of DC
Entertainment’s Vertigo comics imprint from
corporate parent Warner Bros., New Line is
developing an adaptation of the acclaimed comic
by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso.
Hardy, who played villain Bane in The Dark Knight
Rises as well as starred in this summer’s Mad
Max: Fury Road, is on board to produce the
adaptation with an eye to star. He will produce
with Dean Baker via the duo’s Hardy Son &
Baker production shingle.
The project is already down the line in
development, having a script by Chris Borrelli,
whose credits include the recent supernatural
horror movie The Vatican Tapes.
Running for 100 issues from 1999 to 2009, the
acclaimed comic centered on an enigmatic man
named Agent Graves as he presents different
people, for reasons unknown, with a gun, the
identity of the person who ruined their lives …
and a hundred rounds of untraceable
ammunition.
Over the course of the series emerged a large
crime saga that won accolades in the form of
Eisner and Harvey Awards for Azzarello, Risso
and the comic.
The plot for movie is being kept locked in a
briefcase but insiders say the plan is to stay true
to the comic.
Geoff Johns and Adam Schlagman are
overseeing for DC while Richard Brener, Walter
Hamada and Dave Neustadter run point for New
Line.
In a reshuffling of the slate that occurred in late
June, New Line absorbed production and
development of DC’s Vertigo, the imprint that
tends to be edgier, creator-focused and
multigenre when compared with DC Comics
proper, the home of four-color heroes such as
Batman, Wonder Woman and the Flash.
New Line is overseeing the adaptation of
Sandman, the Vertigo title created by Neil
Gaiman that has Joseph Gordon-Levitt involved
as star and director but that was already in
active development at Warners when the transfer
occurred. 100 Bullets is the first Vertigo feature
project to actively move forward in any way
since New Line took over the imprint.
The project was previously in the chamber to be
a television series with David Goyer involved and
was also being developed as a movie by Akiva
Goldsman 's Weed Road.
Hardy’s Fury Road has grossed over $372 million
worldwide for Warners. He next will reunite with
his Inception co-star Leonardo DiCaprio for
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu 's revenge Western,
Revenant , and also plays twin gangsters in
Working Title’s crime drama Legend .
He and Hardy Son & Baker are currently
producing Taboo for FX and BBC One in
partnership with Ridley Scott and Scott Free

Gross Domestic Product

Agency of Nigeria, said Nollywood is capable of
contributing to Nigeria’s economic development
effectively if the industry is given all the
necessary support it requires by government.
He also charged the government to pay attention
to the issue of piracy bedeviling the industry,
adding that the activities of pirates has seriously
affected the film industry.
He said: “I will want the three tiers of government
to put their viewfinders toward Nollywood since
they have recognised that Nollywood helps in the
per capita income of the country.
I feel that they are not paying enough attention to
the movie industry. So, let them give us policies
that will make this industry stand and defend this
country.
I feel the movie industry is thriving and we are
contributing our quota to the economic
advancement of the country which makes me very,
very happy.
“Since we are not relegated to the background, we
will continue to strive harder in the development of
the country in general. So I am happy to be a
member of the Nollywood and see the improvement
in Nollywood for now.’’
He hailed the quality of movies the industry is
churning out now, saying the partnerships
between Nollywood producers and their
counterparts abroad is paying off, because of the
easy accessibility the internet creates.
He said: “When they say it (the world) is a global
village; you expect people of common interests
from the different countries of the world to come
together. And with the help of internet, we have
been moving together and the synergy has been

Flood destroy farm in sokoto

Farm produce worth over one hundred million
naira were destroyed by flood in twenty seven
villages in Wurno Local Government Area of
Sokoto State.
The Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji
Shehu Chacho, who disclosed this to newsmen
said the destroyed farm produce which were
already maturing include; rice, millet, guinea
corn, maize and beans.
According to the chairman, the flood was caused
by the release of excess water from Goronyo
dam and that it had affected no fewer than
seven thousand, five hundred and seventy seven
farmers.
Alhaji Chacho said about two thousand five
hundred hectares of farmlands under the Lugu
canals had been submerged by the flood, which
also destroyed similar farm produce there.
Two farmers, lamented the development, saying,
that they have incurred huge losses.

DSS Arest suspect boko haram

Nigeria’s secret police has disclosed that it had
arrested notable Boko Haram suspects, including a
key commander, linked with several suicide
attacks across the country.
The Department of State Services said in a
statement that Usman Shuiabu known as Money
and other frontline members of the hardline
Islamist group were picked up in Lagos, Kano,
Plateau, Enugu and Gombe states between July
and August.
It said the arrest of Shuaibu and other core
members of his cell had stemmed the spate of
bombings by the extremist sect.
The DSS said it would continue to work with
other stakeholders in the fight against Boko
Haram extremists.
The Islamists have carried out deadly ambushes
across Nigeria’s borders and in recent week’s
suicide bombers, many of them women, have
staged several attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon and
Chad.
Boko Haram, which is seeking to carve out a
hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria, has
killed some over fifteen thousand people since
2009.

Territory and about half a million indirect jobs.
The team also told the President that all the
original inhabitants of the site have been fully
compensated, emphasising that the project
would be totally private sector driven.

Nigeria electricity regulatory comm

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission
has directed distribution companies to restructure
their fixed charges so that subscribers do not pay
for electricity they do not consume.
The directive is in line with a resolution passed
by the Senate for the Commission to look into
complaints by electricity consumers over
indiscriminate billing.
The distribution companies have also been
directed to discontinue the practice of bulk
metering.
In a seven-page response to the Senate’s
directive, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory
Commission said it had told the distribution
companies to restructure the fixed charges.
The chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the
Commission, Sam Amadi, who signed the letter,
said even though the fixed charges were not
illegal, the commission had been able to
intervene in the matter.
On the vexed issue of bulk metering of
customers, the Commission said it totally agreed
with the Senate on the need to eliminate the
sharp practice.
Mr. Amadi added that the Commission has,
however, provided a leeway for estimation in
situations where residential meters are not.

Counter attack legacy in ekiti

Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state governor has launched
a vitriolic attack on predecessor, Dr. Kayode
Fayemi describing him as a serial betrayer who
betrayed his party, the All Progressives
Congress, APC, and its leader, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu who helped him to power.
Fayose, in a statement issued on Thursday by his
Special Assistant on Public Communications and
New Media, Lere Olayinka, noted that his
government was destroying the legacies of huge
debt, unpaid salaries, white elephant projects,
bad governance and corruption left behind by
Fayemi’s government.
He was reacting to the ex-governor’s interview in
some dailies where he stated that “his legacy
was being destroyed”.
Fayose stated that no responsible government
will sustain a legacy of over N86 billion debts
that were incurred on projects with no direct
bearing on the welfare of the people.
He insisted that it was necessary for Fayemi’s
negative legacies to be destroyed, and that,
“even in the APC, his legacy of betrayal of
Senator Bola Tinubu, the man who made him
governor is being destroyed.
““Never again shall Ekiti be governed by those
who will borrow billions of naira to plant flowers
and create comfort for themselves alone”.
Fayose wondered: “did Fayemi leave behind any
positive legacy in Ekiti?
“When Fayemi became governor, he chose to
close down two universities established by the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government of
Segun Oni and abandoned the Oba Adejugbe
General Hospital, Ado-Ekiti, claiming that the
state could not fund more than one university.
“The same Fayemi, who said Ekiti had no money
to fund more than one university preferred to
take N25 billion bond to plant flowers that never
germinated up till now and build a new
governor’s lodge, civic centre, pavilion and
execute other irrelevant projects.
“Furniture alone, in the N3.3 billion governor’s
lodge that he built for himself and his wife cost
N604.9 million and Fayemi wants such legacy of
profligacy to be sustained in Ekiti?
“We are sorry to tell him that we won’t sustain
such legacy of waste.
“Even vehicles bought for traditional rulers and
political appointees, his government did not pay
and uncompleted Oba Adejugbe General Hospital
and State Pavilion were commissioned with
fanfare.

Governor Ameachi hold retreat with 36 governor in sokoto

He said the two-day retreat, which would be held
in Sokoto between November fifteen and sixteen,
would be hosted by the Sokoto State
Government.
He added that, the retreat will be attended by
governors of all thirty-six states of the
federation.
Mr. Okauru also adding that, President Goodluck
Jonathan was also expected to grace the event.
According to him, the retreat was planned to
further encourage good governance and
accountability at the sub-national level.
The retreat will focus on forensic examination of
the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
NNPC, the Federation Accounts Allocation
Committee FAAC, constitutionalism, rule of law
and human rights.
The Director General added that seasoned
professionals had been lined up to guide the
retreat process.
On the crisis that erupted in the forum following
the outcome of its chairmanship election on May
24, Dr. Okauru maintained that the forum
remained one under one leadership.
